Little Red Riding Hood

Little Red Riding Hood is one of my passions.  Most of our pieces were made by either Hull Pottery or by Regal China, though we do collect some other nice "Little Red" pieces.
Hull acquired the original patent but apparently, later, turned it over to Regal.  Even before Regal began producing the line, they were doing most of the decorations for Hull.   Hull only made a few of the pieces themselves.  They made the covered jar, often referred to as a grease jar,  with the pretty bow on it that can be seen in the picture below to the left, an open basket cookie jar which carried several different decorations and the kneeling salt and pepper set with matching figurine (shown in one of the photos below).  The other pieces in this line, as far as I have been able to ascertain, were produced by Regal though the whole line is generically known as "Hull's Little Red Riding Hood".
Do be very careful if you decide to start collecting "Little Red".  It is being heavily reproduced.  Even the Brush jar shown below has been reproduced.  (The one below is an original but it is sometimes hard to tell.)  If you see hardly any crazing on any of the pieces that were produced by Regal instead of Hull, you can almost be assured, they are repros.  Regal used a vitreous material (china) which doesn't craze.  I will put some photos to help distinguish real from reproduction near the bottom of this page.
We have several Little Red Riding Hood cookie jars.

The one in the middle is the "cookie canister".  Book value, as per Mark & Ellen Supnick's, "Collecting Hull Pottery's Little Red Riding Hood", 1998 edition is a surprising $7,000 to $8,500.   I have no plans to sell her but my kids think I'm nuts.  Oh well!!
Below are are a few of our other LRRH jars.

(A closer look at the cookie canister first.)

The first 3 here were made by Hull.  The 4th is by Brush.  Each is different and special in it's own right.  None are the usual, run of the mill editions, though the only thing that makes the 3rd jar special is the decoration on the apron.  Usually, they had no spray of flowers on the apron whether produced by Hull or Regal.
I am still waiting for the Poinsettia edition by Regal.  I just can't afford it yet. I will though.  When I do acquire her, she will be the one right up there on top.

Above are the kneeling figurine and the special edition of the lamp base.  I am especially pleased with these two items.  I have seen several lamp bases but they have been the standard poppy decorations.  This is a solid white glaze with 22 K. gold trim.  There were very few of these made and even fewer of the kneeling figurines.

Repro Covered Butter
The 2 pictures above are to show the differences between the original and reproduction Little Red Riding Hood items.  The picture on the left is a vintage "Covered Butter" by Regal.  The picture on the right is a reproduction made by who knows??  The original is made of a vitreous material (heavy china) and the reproduction is made of pottery.

Crawling sugar, Tab Handled Creamer
Covered Sugar, Head Pour Creamer
We have collected all the sugar and cream sets along with a couple of tea pots and have the batter pitcher, shown on the right in the first pic below.  We have acquired the cracker jar since the pictures were taken.  Many used them as large sugar and creamers. The batter pitcher and the side pour creamer are almost identical except for size.
